What happens when young people are given space to grow, lead, and believe in themselves?
In a new interview with the Jeremy Lin Foundation, Seypong shares how SEADC’s MYEEP program helped him build confidence, strengthen his leadership skills, and find support while navigating the pressures of school, family, and everyday life in San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood.
Seypong first joined SEADC as an intern, where he learned important life and leadership skills through workshops and mentorship. But it wasn’t until he became a counselor-in-training that those lessons truly came to life.
“When I first started facilitating as a counselor, it was different from what I learned versus actually practicing it,” Seypong shared.
In just six months, he noticed major growth in his confidence, public speaking, and ability to lead others.
For many young people, programs like MYEEP are about more than career development. They’re about creating spaces where youth can slow down, feel supported, and imagine a future for themselves and their families.
“I do feel a lot of pressure from everything: family, education, academics, just trying to keep up in this society,” Seypong said. “But SEADC gave me a place where I can actually slow things down.”
We’re grateful to the Jeremy Lin Foundation for helping uplift stories like Seypong’s and for continuing to invest in AAPI youth leadership and community.
