SEADC COVID-19 Relief – Food Access Project
Due to the impacts of COVID-19, many of our clients and community members have limited to no access to food. In an effort to support our community and ensure access to food, in May 2020, we began a food pantry project, preparing and providing bi-weekly culturally appropriate Southeast Asian foods and ingredients to our community members. Every other Wednesdays in the morning our team arrives at our center to prepare grocery bags to distribute to families starting at 1pm. While the number of need for food is growing week by week, currently at each distribution, approximately 2-3 bags of groceries and ingredients are provided to approximately 70 -80 households. Once an SEADC staff members have identified and determined that there is a need among a client’s family, staff coordinates with our agency’s Food Access Co-Leads to ensure that these particular households will receive groceries from our center. Aside from food access through our agency’s food pantry, our staff also provides resources to other food bank pantries and food access points. Furthermore, if a client or community member has mobility challenges, our team works to identify other community resources that may support delivery services to our clients.
